The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), Aligarh organized a National Seminar on “Threats of Terrorism to Secular Democracy in India” Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Kennedy Hall Auditorium, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

In which Shri Mahesh Bhatt well known eminent film maker, social activist and humanist was the Chief Guest & Key-note addressee.

A national seminar started the introductory address of the president of The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) Mr. Jasim Mohammad who outlined the purpose of aligarh movement and the seminar in the contemporary India. He said that the time has come to know the real cause of Terrorism and the forces involved in it. Jasim Mohammad condemned the new politics and acts of hatred which is mainly intended to create a new enemy.

Eminent Film maker Shri Mahesh Bhatt Chief Guest & Key-note addressee of the seminar said that the states are getting biased by the communal forces. The country belongs to all and every one has equal share in it. Islam is a religion of peace and a true Muslim can neither be frightened by any terror nor create any violence, he said. He was also attacked by the communal forces in Mumbai. But still he would continue to speak for and work for peace and justice. He recalled Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of The Aligarh Muslim University and equated Hindus and Muslims with two eyes of a beautiful bride. He urged youths to follow the constitutional or legal path and to solve the problem within the society. Shri Mahesh Bhatt also said that India is a not a secular country but an aspiring secular country. He also lamented on the displacement of the Kashmiri pandits in Jammu & Kashmir. He wanted people not only to speak of peace but to act for it. There is unrest in the society because of inequality, injustice and division. The police can not solve the terrorism but we have to solve it within the civil society. The Prime Minister’s speech at Red Fort on secularism would not be meaningful if not practice. He said that the communal forces are creating hatred and a day of anarchy is worse then forty years of tyranny. He said that the biggest terrorist in the World is not hiding in the mountains of Afghanistan but sitting in Washington. He said that it is necessary for a Muslim to be a true Muslim and so for a Hindu in order to establish peace and harmony in the Country.

Dr. Arshi Khan deptt. of Political Science, AMU said that terrorism has been committed by the forces which created the problems of the partition of India, killed Mahatma Gandhi, Engineered twenty riots, demolished the Babri Mosque and made Gujarat at the laboratory of Hindutva. Now the forces are making and planting bombs in different parts of the country. Examples are Malegaon, Naded, Kanpur, Mehrauli and Delhi Cantt. He said that Muslims were promised justice and equality after 1947 but communalism failed it.

Prof. Razaullah Khan Chairman, Deptt of Civil Engg., AMU called for the supremacy of law and justice. He also said that terrorism should not be associated with any religion.

Presiding over the seminar Mr. Naseem Ahmad (IAS, Retd.) former Vice- Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University said that efforts of MBMC to make India communalism free country and to established communal harmony, peace and justice in India are highly appreciable. He said that the allegation against Muslims is completely one sided as it has several dimension. We are getting totally demoralized. There is a need to know the real cause of the problem. Endorsing the views of Shri Mahesh Bhatt, he said to reach out to the truth to maintain durable peace and security in the country. Terrorism is the challenge to all of us and we must act against it so that law should prevail over the country.

Dr. Anisur Rehman Siddique, & Ms. Afshan Idris Hussnain condemned the communal approach to get rid of terrorism. Dr. F.S. Sherani conducted the seminar and Mr. Mohsin Raza Khan presented vote of Thanks.

A magazine named as “THE ALIGARH MOVEMENT” was also released by Shri Mahesh Bhatt and Certificates were awarded to the Editorial Board of the Magazine.
